Final image Credit belongs to Tina Zabriskie | I have always had a love of color along side my love of black, purple and turquoise...except pink I generally disliked pink growing up. Perhaps my distain for pink was due to my bedroom color choice when I was 12..."princess pink" it was shortly after that when I became anti pink and wanted more vibrancy in my life. For a person who longs for color, Dark Heart Designs is the top spot for cosmetics. Owner and creator Tina Zabriskie says this about her cosmetic line, "My mission is to make beautiful, affordable cosmetics, and help people along the way. Dark Heart Designs is more than just a cosmetics company. I want it to be a resource, an inspiration, and a brand that makes you feel like you're a part of something. Makeup is just the beginning." (https://www.facebook.com/darkheartdesigns) A while back I ordered some samples to try out and let me say, the full size-full priced makeup is well worth every penny, and its not even that costly! I ordered eye shadows in 3 colors, Nymph, Charmed, and Coral Fang. I also ordered Monster Eye Light Gel Liner, Deadly Lullaby Lip Slick, and Dark Magic Eyelixer. When I received my adorable drawstring pouch with my goodies I had some extras in there too, like any good business, a business card was included as well as a card letting the buyer know that any problems with the order can and will be resolved, a hand-written heart felt "thank you" card, a cute sticker of one of the shop images, and a discount off my next order! Since my day job dosen't allow me a chance to get too creative with my cosmetics I kept to a simple style with the added color for flare. I applied a drop of the Dark Magic Eyelixer to each eyelid and smoothed it out, then I gathered a bit of Charmed on to the end of my brush and added a drop of the Eyelixer directly to the powder and swept that over my lid. I then took a dry brush and added a touch more of the loose powder sans Eyelixer. After the purple Charmed eye shadow was on even I added some green Nymph to the outside corner and just to the center of fold of my eyelid. I finished the basic eye shadows with the orange Coral Fang to the inside corner meeting Nymph halfway, and brushed a bit of Coral Fang on the edge of my lower lid all the way across. To complete the eyes I added winged liner with a very thin brush. Lastly I added the lip slick to both upper and lower lips. You can see the results to the left. How do I feel about the cosmetics? I've never used anything to prime before putting on eye shadow other than the basic powder foundation. The Eyelixer helped grab the pigments but they didn't want to come off the brush which is why I added a second layer of loose pigment to my lids, mixing the two applications helped to blend all the colors in together in the end and has helped the color stay on my lids hours later. I admit I'm not the best when it comes to applying eyeliner and I am always looking for ways to make it easier, after trying the gel liner from Dark Heart Designs I don't think I'll be using another brand. The Lip Slick's name doesn't lie, the lip color is very slick but a beautiful shade not too strong not too light. Will I be ordering from this company again? Yes I will!
